Liveblog coverage of UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida
First fight of the night: Ken Stone vs. Dustin Pague!
(you can watch this fight on Facebook by going to the UFC: Ultimate Fighting Championship Facebook page)
These two bantamweights are ready to go! Pague fighting for the 2nd time in two weeks. YIKES! BTW, he is a Shogun Fights veteran. Shoutout to John Rallo.
The round begins with 30 seconds of dancing. Pague throws and Stone counters. Should be a good stand-up fight between these two. Spinning backfist misses from Stone, and Pague counters to the body. Stone lands a few to the head and Pague's counters misses. Stone is controlling the Octagon and the fight pace right now. The two fighters clinch for a very brief time and break it off. Halfway through the first round and we're seeing Stone looking more technical. Pague lands a straight left to Stone's nose. Pague lands a nice right hand and stuns Stone but Stone recovers and counters with one of his own. Now Pague is in the center of the Octagon. Uh-oh! Pague was checking on Stone's future kids there. He'll need a break. Ken Stone is a former soccer player, so you'd think he'd like to connect with a good kick to Pague's head tonight. Stone lands a good jab. Nice one-two from Pague but again, Stone counters well. Nice left from Stone as the round comes near the end. Pauge lands a good right and Stone counters with a left again after staggering. And the round ends with Stone checking a head kick from Pague. I'll give that one to Stone, 10-9.
Round two begins. Both fighters look fresh, and Pague wants control of the Octagon this round. Short leg kick from Pague with a Stone overhand left counter. Stone attempts a takedown and they just go against the cage. Pague with pretty good takedown defense here, but Stone only has one underhook, so not the best form from him. Stone landing solid knees to Pague's inside thighs, but Pauge isn't budging. Ref breaks it up, as it was needed. And Pague has his future kids checked now. Pague recovers quickly and they're back at it again. Neither fighter looks tired right now. Stone landing low leg kicks to Pague's lead leg. Pague with a spinning backfist. Pague VERY aggressive now. Stone gets a kick checked and Pague fires a counter right. Low push kick from Stone looks slightly ineffective. Nice right from Pague as the round closes. I'll give that one to Pague, 10-9.
Third round starts and you can hear EVERY sound in the building right now. Each corner thinks winning the third round will win the fight, and I think they are correct. About 45 seconds in, we finally get some action with a little bit of brawling. Pauge is in the center of the Octagon but Stone is landing more shots right now. Stone attemps a takedown, but again, can't get the second underhook to complete the takedown. Pague works around and takes down Stone. BUT now Stone has Pague's back! But Pague writhes around to get guard again. Pague with a body triangle in guard, but Stone is landing a few minor shots to Pague's dome. Pague tries short elbow from the bottom, but accomplishes nothing. Stone finally pushes Pague against the Octagon but Pague still has a VERY strong guard. Pague opens his guard to attempt a reverse. Stone really failing to capitalize on a big situation here. Pague gets to his feet, but both fighters clinch against the cage. KNees are exchanged but the round ends and I think Stone wins the round 10-9, and the fight 29-28.
The decision is in and Ken Stone wins by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) giving him his second win in the UFC.
Second fight on Facebook: Dan Miller vs. Richardo Funch!
(again, follow along by watching this fight on UFC's Facebook page)
Well, apparently, Funch isn't the only fighter to shave his signature hair tonight. Maybe he'll get his first win in the UFC in four tries tonight as a result. Miller is one of the hometown boys, so he'll have home-field advantage here. Miller is looking to break a two-fight losing streak tonight.
Round one begins! Funch take center-Octagon to start, but Miller bullies him out. Miller lands a HARD body kick. Miller lands some punches quickly. Funch throws a kick of his own, but Miller checks it. Funch clinches with Miller against the cage. Knees and foot stomps are threatened, but none happen. Miller reverses with a body lock and tries to take Funch down with a Judo hip-toss. Funch again has Miller against the cage, but they separate. There goes the leather! Both fighters let it fly for about 7 seconds, then Funch clinches with Miller aginst the cage again. Funch can't seem to overcome Miller's superior wrestling defense. Ref splits them. Funch throws a fury of punches and kicks and the round ends with Miller trying to defend himself. Gotta give that one to Funch, 10-9, but it was close.
Round 2: Miller comes out with a quick one-two, but doesn't land it. Funch tries to clinch with Miller and he's made a mistake. Miller puts him in a guillotine, but Funch slips out and lands some NASTY elbows to the temple of Miller. They split again and clinch again. And Miller attempts a guillotine again. And again, no dice. Funch looks to be in a superior position against the cage with double underhooks, but still can't get the takedown. Another guillotine attempt from Miller. Miller is on his back and trying for a heel-hook, but Funch is defending by leaning on the cage. Nice strategy from Funch to throw elbows to Miller's ankle. OUCH. It works as Miller releases the submission attempt. Nice right from Funch, but Miller counters with a solid up-kick. Miller gets to his feet, but Funch immediately pushes Miller against the cage again. Funch still has both hooks, but STILL can't get Miller down. Miller attempts another guillotine... Oh, this one looks better. Nope. Funch slips it. The round ends with Funch pushing Miller against the cage again. Based on the sub attempts, and the takedown defense, I have to give this round to Miller, 10-9.
Final round: Miller looks gassed. Funch looks rather fresh. Funch with a good inside leg kick to start the round. Miller getting aggressive, but Funch waits out the flurry and counters well. MILLER drops Funch!! He jumps all over him and is in Funch's guard, but man, Miller has done some damage, but can't finish him. Both fighters get back to their feet. Funch is completely unaware to his surroundings, but manages to clinch Miller against the cage again. Miller is in the rare, squatting position, with Funch attempting a guillotine. Funch swings Miller around but cannot complete the takedown. Miller attempts a guillotine again... OH MAN! Funch taps! Great win for Dan Miller! You'd think this is the last time we've seen Funch in the UFC, but who knows... Good win for Miller, he's now 6-5 in the UFC and 1-0 at his new weight class.
Ok, kids. The next few fights are able to be seen on the Fuel Network, so if you get that, congratulations!
First Fuel prelim: Matt Brown vs. Luis Ramos.
Matt Brown is 7-5 in the UFC while Ramos lost in his debut in April of '11. Ramos is looking to make his career longer than the 40 seconds he lasted against Erick Silva 14 months ago.
Let's do this! Both fighters trying to find their jabs early, but mostly dancing. Ramos throws a punch-kick combo, but falls on his ass. Ramos gets back up, throws a punch and drops to a single-leg. Ramos has double underhooks and to take him down. He gets it. Brown uses his feet to roll out and get back to his feet. Both fighters exchange dominant position against the cage and they separate. Ramos with another throw-and-clinch combo. Ramos lands a solid right to Brown's left ear. Brown becoming aggressive but not landing much. Now Brown puts Ramos against the cage. One minute left in the round. Matt Brown appears to be cut over his eye. Ramos again attempting a takedown. For some reason, the ref separates both fighters with 5 seconds left in the round... so they end the round staring at each other blankly. We'll give that round to Ramos, 10-9.
Here's Johnny! Err, Round 2, I mean... Brown and Ramos exchange low leg kicks. Ramos pushing the action and doing another punch-clinch combo. Brown seems to be defending the single-leg takedown well. Ramos with a left kick followed by a right hook. Brown gets clinch, but doesn't make anything significant happen. Both fighters separate and now Brown looks like he has a killer instinct now. Funch is cut on the bridge of his nose. Brown aggressive once again, and Funch eats a few before getting Brown against the cage. OOO! Brown lands some solid knees in the clinch! Ramos was stunned badly, but manages to find a way to get Brown against the cage. Brown again with the clinch and Brown is wearing him out. Oh man, Ramos is out on his feet, and the ref did the right thing by stopping the fight. Ramos didn't hit the ground, but his consciousness was only hanging on by a thread. Brown gets his 8th UFC win by 2nd round TKO and Ramos is still winless in two.
Next prelim fight: Nick Catone vs. Chris Camozzi!
(Fight can be seen on Fuel TV.)
Catone is the other local favorite, but he'll need it to overcome the 3 inches of height and 3.5 inches of reach he's giving up to the Californian. Should see some ground work in this fight, as Catone trains under Ricardo Almeida, and Camozzi has a handful of wins by submission as well.
Apparently, the members of Metallica are in the crowd tonight. They are in town for the Orion Festival this weekend. Here's round 1: The crowd is completely behind Catone, of course. Catone catches a kick by Camozzi and lands a solid right counter. Other than that, not much action in the first 90 seconds. Both fighters are being cautious of the takedown. The fighters clinch, but not much happens. Camozzi lands a solid left. Man, on a fuzzy TV Catone would totally look like Randy Couture. Camozzi lands a small flying knee, but it doesn't do much damage. Leg kicks exchanged. Catone claims stake of the Bud Light logo in the center of the Octagon, but Camozzi is getting his range . Head kick by Camozzi is checked. Catone gets the takedown with 45 seconds left in the opening frame. Catone with a few elbows. Camozzi can't stop the late rush, but the round comes to a close. I think you have to give the round to Catone for the late flurry, 10-9.
Round 2: Camozzi lands a solid combination. Catone clinches, but Camozzi throws him off. Catone throws a right that misses. Camozzi can't counter as well as he thinks he can, he really needs to be the aggressor here. Catone again tries to clinch. Fail. The crowd starts to chant, "Jersey Devil" in support of Catone. Catone responds by clinching with Camozzi against the cage and landing some knees. Camozzi looks to reverse, but can't get it, so they separate. Catone throws a lazy right and Camozzi easily dodges. Another clinch, but again, not much going on. Catone with a single-leg takedown after realizing that the bridge of his nose is cut. Camozzi appears to have a modified butterfly guard and it is quite effective against the local. This is where Catone's lack of reach is hurting him. The round comes to an end with Catone landing a shot. Hard to gauge this round... I'd have to say Camozzi for the couple of power shots landed.
Final round: Camozzi lands a solid left and a HUGE left knee to the local's mouth. Catone is bleeding like a stuck pig now. Camozzi is seizing the opportunity and fires off more punches and knees. Catone fires a right hook that lands. Camozzi is breathing heavily out of his mouthguard. Catone gets a takedown, but they pop up quickly. And time is called as referee Dan Mirgolotta wants the doctors to check the cut on Catone's brow. And that's the fight, folks! Doctors don't like the cut at all and the natives are very restless now, showering the Octagon with boos. Big win for Camozzi, his second in a row in the UFC. The loss halts Catone's two-fight win streak.
Hey look! Another prelim fight on Fuel TV! Steven Siler vs. Joey Gambino!
Gambino is making his UFC debut with a 9-0 professional record. Siler is 2-0 in the Octagon since his stint on The Ultimate Fighter season 14. Gambino trains with Georges St. Pierre, so I think he has a slight advantage there. Siler trains with two other fighters on tonight's card; Ramsey Nijem and Brock Jardine.
Here's round one: Gambino tries for a spinning backfist, and Siler counters with a takedown attempt. Doesn't happen. Siler lands a good knee in the clinch and now Gambino is bleeding. Gambino is pushing Siler against the cage, and there's a guillotine attempt by Siler. More knees and a solid knee from Gambino and we've got a fight on our hands, kids! Both fighters on the ground and Siler has Gambino's back. Now Siler has mount. And damn, that's quick! A transition to the guillotine and that's a wrap! Give Siler a LOT of credit for that submission due to Gambino's blood-covered noggin. Impressive win for "Super" Siler. He's 3-0 in the UFC, getting his first finish in the process.
I may be wrong, but I don't think The Colonel has picked a single fight correctly so far tonight. Hope he likes Nickelback...
Next up on the prelims: Rick Story vs. Brock Jardine!
Jardine makes his UFC debut and is probably looking to avenge his teammate's loss just minutes earlier. Story is trying to find his 7th win in the UFC in 10 fights.
Round uno! Story goes right for the knees to the head. Jardine attempts a single-leg takedown, but it doesn't materialize. Good right by Jardine. After many missed punches, Story gets a takedown and immediately gets Jardine's back. He has one hook in... Jardine looking to dump Story, but I can't get hip control. Story is now in side-ride and Jardine gets back to his feet. Story appears to be quicker on the punches than Jardine. One minute left in the round. Jardine goes low for a punch but takes a kick to the top of the head. Story and Jardine dance for the rest of the round. Easily a 10-9 round for Rick Story.
Round two! Jardine is throwing bombs, but they are missing their target. Story waits for a wild right by Jardine and takes him down. Once again, he's got Jardine's back with a single hook. Jardine tries to get to his feet and does. Story still dodging Jardine's wild punches. Story lands a solid left and takes Jardine down again. And he has his back with a single hook again. If Story can get a second hook in, he may be able to finish this fight. The crowd is getting restless... Jardine gets to his feet again and Story continues to pressure him and finally he gets away. The way Jardine throws those overhand rights, you can tell he trains with John Hackleman. They're very similar to Chuck Liddel's, except he lands his. Story gets another takedown off of a wild punch by Jardine. Story lands some good punches and the round closes. Another 10-9 round for Rick Story.
Third and final round! Jardine's corner is really stressing to him that he needs to knock out Story in this round. They're very correct. Story is still aggressive to start the round. Another takedown by Story. Getting around towards Jardine's back and lands a HARD left hand. Jardine still gets back to his feet though. But not for long. More takedowns from Story. And they're back to their feet again. Jardine with more wild punches and a wild head kick. Jardine is keeping his distance to make sure that Story can't coast to a win. But Story has other ideas. He's landing more punches and takes Jardine again. A failed guillotine attempt by story from his own back and they're on their feet again. Two minutes left in the match. Jardine eats a kick while trying to throw an uppercut. Story attempts another takedown and once again, Jardine sprawls. They stand again. Jardine slips. Story is very tired. But even then he still can't hit Story. Jardine with the takedown. Story looking for an armbar. 15 seconds left in the round. Jardine attempts a desperation heel-hook, but the fight is over. Should be a 30-27 victory for Rick Story.
More prelim fights on Fuel TV: Ramsey Nijem vs. C.J. Keith!
Keith, a US Army veteran, is making his UFC debut. Ramsey looking for his second win in a row and looking to win one for his two teammates who failed to win in their UFC debuts. Keith is undefeated, but struggled to make weight yesterday, so let's see if he's affected by that at all.
Round one! Nijem with a Hackleman right. And we're abusing more gonads... Nijem just took a knee to the goody bag. He's ok. Nijem lands a solid right. And a takedown attempt by Ramsey and a great sprawl from CJ. CJ gets in Ramsey's guard. Now half guard. Now mount. Yikes. But Ramsey gets up. And another takedown attempt from Ramsey. He finally gets a double-leg takedown, putting CJ on his back. Now Ramsey gets mount. He's raining down elbows on CJ. Keith tries to roll, but the ref stops the fight. A first-round TKO at the 2:29 mark of the first round for Ramsey Nijem. Finally, a win for the Pit Elevated team. May have been a slight premature stoppage, but CJ absolutely was not doing enough to defend the onslaught from Ramsey. Keith takes his first professional loss and Nijem is 2-1 in the UFC now.
Final fight of the prelims on Fuel TV: Hatsu Hioki vs. Ricardo Lamas!
Hioki is 2-0 in the UFC while Lamas is 2-0 in the UFC and 4-2 in the WEC. One would think that this is a featherweight contender fight, but I could be wrong. Hioki has a height, reach and age advantage.
Here's round one! Hioki gets the first punch landed. And goes right to the cage with Lamas in tow. Lamas tries to reverse against the cage but Hioki reverses that. Hioki gets the takedown but Lamas reverses. Hioki has an omaplata from his back! Wow. Lamas picks up Hioki and slams him down HARD on his neck, but Hioki doesn't let go! He finally lets go and they both stand. Good defense from Lamas. Hioki tring to work the kicks and Lamas counters and gets a takedown. They both get on their feet against the cage. Hioki is looking for a trip, but Lamas reverses and lands a solid body punch. Now Lamas putting pressure against Hioki against the cage and there goes the trip! Hioki in half-guard. Right arm is under Lamas' neck. Hioki showing good ground control and initiates a Kimura from half-guard. He lets go of the submission and work a few punches to the ribs of Lamas. That's the round... damn-good fight so far. Hioki gets the round in my eyes, 10-9.
I'm anxious for round two! Lamas looks like he's ready to run a marathon. Both fighters exchange low kicks. Hioki checks a head kick from Lamas. More pressure from Hioki. Lamas with a solid one-two combo. Hioki ducks a right and tries for a takedown. They fall against the cage and they're both back on their feet. Lamas lands a solid jab up the middle. And a left. Hioki's hands are hanging awfully low, but he uses that to get a takedown. Lamas is working on a guillotine! This is interesting. Hioki gets out and works to half-guard. He's looking to slide his right leg over Lamas' left knee. Good ground clinic going on in this fight. And Lamas goes for another guillotine! Damn! One minute left... Hioki smothers Lamas to get out of the submission and is back in Lamas' guard. Elbows to the midsection from Hioki. Another round in the books. I have NO idea who to give that round to. I guess we'll give Lamas that round, 10-9.
Final round! Lamas shows a flying knee, but whiffs. Lamas is on the center logo. High kick checked by Hioki. Lamas lands a left hook. And a left jab. Hioki looks lost, but lands a right. Hioki feigns a shot, but nothing. Good body shot from Lamas. Stamina definitely an issue for Hioki right now. Lamas with a leg kick. And a body shot. And a left hook. He's gonna win this fight if this keeps up. Hioki with a takedown attempt, but Lamas has a guillotine again in guard. There's an arm in though, so but it may not mattter. This is TIGHT. Just over a minute left. One minute. Still trying to get the submission... and Hioki gets out! Lamas may have blown his load there though. 30 seconds left. Lamas softening up Hioki in his guard. And that's it. 10-9 round for Lamas. I've got him winning the fight 29-28. But what I think means nothing... The judges agree exactly. Good fight for him! You'd think he'll have a fight against The Korean Zombie in his near future.
We're in the main card now kids! Tune in to FX right now! First fight of the main card: Ross Pearson vs. Cub Swanson!
Pearson, the Ultimate Fighter winner of season 9, is 5-2 in the UFC and 1-0 as a featherweight. Cub Swanson is 1-1 in the UFC, with a loss to Ricardo Lamas, and trains with tonight's main event fighter, Clay Guida.
I just did the math. So far in this card, The Colonel is a depressing 1-7, while E is 6-2. The Colonel's shirt size is 2X... uh oh!
The Colonel's shirt size is 2X... uh oh!
Round one! My god, man! Pearson looks ginormous next to Swanson. Ross gets a flying knee but it doesn't do much damage. Cub throws a punch-kick combo. Pearson ducks a left hook and man-handles Cub to the mat. Cub gets his way up and throws a few knees as a consolation. Ross throws a head kick that is partially checked. Cub rocks Ross and now the Brit is wobbly. Pearson may have recovered now. Good uppercut from Swanson. Pearson got hit with a flying kick and Swanson lands on his back. Ross gives him a hard right as a thank you gift. They both stand. These two don't plan on taking this one a full three rounds. Swanson looks VERY comfortable out there though. Cub lands a left. Pearson catches Cub's kick and can't get him down. Good one-two from Ross. And a solid kick from Pearson. Nice right from Swanson and the round expires. 10-9, Swanson.
Round two! I bet it doesn't go to a third round... Swanson throwing bombs! Pearson looks to be a little more determined this time. Pearson lands two jabs in a row. Now they're trading haymakers! Pearson picks up Swanson and tries to slam him, but just settles for the takedown. They stand after a stalemate on the ground. Cub with a hard right. Left lands from Pearson. Cub's hands are low and Pearson is cut. Nice combo from Ross. The lefts seem to be landing for the Brit now. A flying knee attempt from Cub and Pearson catches it and takes him down, but eats an upkick on the way down. Swanson has Pearson in his guard now. Pearson is trying to posture up to get more force on his strikes. Short punches from the top by Pearson. Passes to half-guard. More bleeding. And they stand up. Nice body-head combo from Pearson! HOLY CRAP! Swanson lands a HARD front kick to Pearson's jaw and it's over! WOW! The replay shows it was a series of two straight rights and a massive left hook that knocked up Pearson. Very impressive win from Cub Swanson and Greg Jackson is impressed with his student. Swanson gets his second win in a row in the UFC after a storied career in the WEC. Pearson will take his first loss at featherweight.
Second main-card fight on FX: Brian Ebersole vs. TJ Waldburger!
Ebersole is on a 15-fight win streak! He's 3-0 in the UFC. Waldburger is 3-1 in the UFC but coming off of two first-round submission wins in a row. E said it best on the show Wednesday, "This is a fight for relevancy in the UFC." Waldburger is 7 years younger than Ebersole, who is fighting in his 65th (you read that correctly) professional fight. What the flying hell is on Ebersole's chest? I'm just going to pretend he didn't shave his chest hair in the shape of an arrow pointing upward. Wow... wow.
Let's do the damn thing! Round 1: That chest hair just made this really awkward for me, and I'm not sure why. Guess it's good that it's not pointing down... Anyway, the fight. Well... Ebersole was trying to find his range, but instead, Waldburger followed the arrow and dropped him with a left and pounces on him immediately. Now he's almost in full mount. He's there. This shouldn't last too much longer. Ebersole rolls out of it. But into a D'arce choke! Waldburger is trying to turn into it, but both fighters stand and immediately clinch. They separate. Body shot from Ebersole. I just realized I've never paid this much attention to Brian Ebersole's face before. Damn you, subliminal messages. Elbow out of the clinch by Ebersole. Nice kick to the ribs by TJ and it's countered by Ebersole with a kick of his own. They are going blow-for-blow here. Ebersole tries to clinch again, but Waldburger wants none of it. Very poor takedown attempt by Ebersole, but he's got Waldy up against the cage, and that's where they'll end the round. How did this happen?! How is this fight still going? Either way, 10-9 for Waldburger.
Round up. I mean, round two. Nice left-right combo by Waldburger. And into a double-leg takedown. Very nice and very effective. Ebersole is looking to reverse position, but Waldburger wants his back. They both stand, pressed against the cage. Takedown by Ebersole. Rubber guard from Waldburger, working on an omaplata. Ebersole gets out and feeds TJ a left hand for his troubles. Ebersole is back in Waldy's guard, and TJ attempts an armbar. He's got it. and lost it somehow. I have no idea how the round ended because I was being bothered by hotel cleaning staff. No shit.
Round three. Ebersole trying to clinch. And he just tried a cartwheel kick. Seriously?! I guess he feels like he's up two rounds to none, but he's not. Good short elbow from Waldburger and they separate. Dammit, I'm really pissed about being bothered by people when I'm trying to work... Ebersole with a takedown. Waldburger looks gassed. But he is working on a triangle from guard. He may actually get this... He pulls the head down, but can't get the tap. They trade punches from their positions. And finally Ebersole gets out. And now he gets Waldburger's back! But he spins and gets back into his guard. One minute left in this fight. Waldburger may be trying to set a record for most submissions attempted in a fight. Instead, he eats a hard right hand from Ebersole. THat's the fight. Ebersole had the round, easy, 10-9. I have no idea who won round two (Thanks, Revel cleaning staff!), but I'll guess that Waldburger gets the split decision win. Let's see what the judges say: Nope, Ebersole must have won round two then, because the judges give him the win, 29-28. Ebersole is still undefeated in the UFC at 4-0.
Fight 3 out of 4 on FX tonight: Sam Stout vs. Spencer Fisher!
These guys have fought twice before, both to decisions, and they each claim a win. This one is for the series win! Stout is 6-6 in the UFC while Fisher is 9-7. Both are coming off of losses to Thiago Tavares. This is also Spencer Fisher's last fight, as he will be retiring after tonight's fight. Bet this one goes to a decision as well...
Here we go again! Round one! Both fighters come out swinging. Stout looks more crisp. Good body kick by Fisher. Stout trying to find a home for his wicked right hand. Both fighters keeping distance and throwing leg kicks. Fisher likes getting punched by Stout as he smiles and nods every time a punch lands. Fisher now winning the striking battle. Good combo by Stout. Fisher with a very nice counter left. Stout gets a takedown! Didn't see that one coming... Stout is in Fisher's guard. Fisher trying to throw short elbows from the bottom. Stout not doing much from the top. One minute left. Stout lets Fisher up, but immediately takes him back down. They stand up against the cage. Good strategy by Stout, but I have to give the round to Fisher based on his activity off his back and his strikes landed on his feet. 10-9 Fisher.
Round two! I was wondering how long until they put a Metallica member on camera. Stout coming out to more leg kicks. Stout catches one of Fisher's kicks but can't take him down. Fisher really winning the stand-up battle right now. Stout keeps trying for a takedown, but cant get it. Fisher just landed a good left that shook up Stout briefly. Stout isn't countering the way he wants to right now. It appears as though there's a good mouse building underneath Stout's right eye. Under two minutes left. Stout still has no answer for Fisher's stand-up. Both land huge right hands on each other. YIKES! Stout took one to the Mommy-Daddy button. But he's ok. They fight, and Stout immediately goes for the takedown. He gets it and is in Fisher's guard. Stout still very ineffective on the ground, but the round is over. Again, 10-9, Fisher.
Round tre! Stout fires off an overhand right. Spinning elbow from Fisher lands. Right hand from Fisher. Stout is really getting dominated on his feet. Another spinning backfist attempted, but it misses. It's a shame Spencer Fisher is retiring after this fight... he looks really good. He is just picking apart Sam Stout's defense. Fisher is covering when Stout punches. Damn... Stout's right eye is almost swollen completely shut. Good left to Stout's chin. Stout finally gets a takedown. Pushes Fisher against the cage. Now trying to get his back, but Fisher stands. Leg kicks exchanged and checked. Another takedown attempt by Stout and gets it. Looks like he's trying to win this fight by points. He's in Fisher's half-guard. Nope... Ref stands them up for some reason. Okay... Stout is now cut. 10 seconds left. BOMBS AWAY!! The fight ends with Fisher being cut open. I still give the round and the fight to Spencer Fisher, 30-27. Let's see what the judges think: They think like me... wait, what?! They gave the fight to Stout? Well... I'm confused. Either way, Stout is now 7-6 in the UFC and Spencer Fisher has to retire with a questionable loss.
Main event on FX! Clay Guida vs. Gray Maynard!
So, Maynard is growing his hair out and Guida cut all his off! This should be fun! Wait... I just got told I could either live-blog the main event or get a photo with James Hetfield from Metallica. Well... GOODNIGHT KIDS!
